For 30 years, Dr. P. Kay Carl, Wittenberg class of 1959, worked in the Clark County School District in Nevada, presiding over its phenomenal growth. As a guidance counselor, principal and, eventually, assistant superintendent, Carl worked with a student population that typically grew to 12,00015,000 enrollments every year, recalling one year when the district opened 18 new schools.
Carl, who recently teamed with Rick Watson, John R. Gallifent and Jonathan Peters to write Education in the Neon Shadow: The First 50 Years of the Clark County School District, says her liberal arts education at Wittenberg provided her with the fundamental tools necessary for success in every position she held and, perhaps most important, encouraged the development of her curiosity.
"I am so grateful for my time at Wittenbergfrom the professors to my sorority to the many different opportunities I had there," she says. "Wittenberg gave me the skills, knowledge and compassion as a strong base to all my experiences and accomplishments. Education has been my passion, and I want future students to have similar opportunities. Therefore, with Tiger Pride and Shifter loyalty, I have made a planned gift to help ensure Wittenberg's future and to provide a solid educational foundation for new generations of Wittenberg students."
